1.5" composite metal deck requires less concrete but spans shorter distances than deeper composite metal decking. It is recommended to pour a minimum of 2" of concrete over the ribs of the deck for a total slab thickness of 3.5".

Note: Because of the profile of the embossments, there is no gain in strength for the composite deck-slab when the deck gets thicker than 20 gage. However, the construction spans do get longer for 18 and 16 gage deck. So different with the roofing decking, Composite Deck with the embossing is necessary.
